AUSTIN - Post Antelope Corbin McDonald brought home the silver medal in the Class 2A triple jump at the 2012 UIL State Track and Field Championships.  Meanwhile his PHS teammates Haily Berry and Alexis Ramirez competed well but didn't place in the top three.

McDonald, a senior on his second trip to the state meet, set the mark to beat of 45' 9.75" on his second jump.  Then in the sixth and final round, San Saba's Luis Vega reached the 45' 11.25".   McDonald told “I felt good.  I thought I’d come in first, but anything can happen, and it did.”  He holds the PHS record of 46' 2.75".  “I didn’t do as great as I thought I would, but I can’t complain. I got second. My last year, a medal,” said McDonald.  He bettered his 2011 appearance in Austin of 44" 7.75' and a fifth place finish.

First time state meet athletes junior Haily Berry and sophomore Alexis Ramirez handled themselves well in an intimidating atmosphere.  Coach Beau Riker felt that "our kids were prepared physically and mentally for their competition."  He added "Haily attended the state meet last year to watch her teammates, so she knew that she was going to feel some pressure to preform at her absolute best.  Alexis was somewhat overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the facilities and the mass amount of spectators.  They both did an awesome job dealing with the stress of the meet."

Berry placed 5th in the triple jump with a leap of 36' 10.25".  The event was won by Kenija Collier of Tatum, with a jump of 39'.  Berry's best is 37' 5" which is the school record.

Ramirez threw the discus 110' 6" placing 7th in the state as a sophomore.  The favored Amber Graham of Cisco, who Alexis competed against in the Region 1 meet, won the gold medal with a throw of 127' 5".

McDonald finishes his high school career owning two school records:  the triple jump and the high jump (6'6").  He also gets to wear a Texas State meet silver medal.

Berry and Ramirez look forward to competing in future state meets.

Coach Riker added "we have a great group of kids here at Post High School.  It has been a pleasure coaching a group of hard working and respectful student athletes."
