Local Girl Scouts Show Off Scout House
Published March 27, 2012 @ 10:32 a.m.
Post Girl Scouts held an Open House last week at the Scout House celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts and the “new face” recently completed at the house. Brownie Scouts and Junior Scouts meet in the barn red structure with a spacious interior flooded with natural light. The house has several meeting areas and a complete kitchen as well as a back yard and a large parking area.
“With recent funding from two local organizations we have added siding to the house, done plumbing work and put in new floors,” said Carol Tobias, a long-time leader of Girl Scouts in Post. “Through the years we’ve had continued support from approximately a dozen private donors.” Without this kind of help, Tobias explained, “After we lost the local United Way, it would have been very difficult to maintain a suitable meeting place for local Girl Scouts.”
Tobias said that the building was structurally sound, but needed work such as repairs to the front porch.
Carol Tobias, a long-time support of scouting in Post, will receive an award from the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains during a celebration event in Lubbock April 19. She is being recognized for her long-time dedication to scouting.
