Better Business Bureau turns 100
What is the BBB?

The Better Business Bureau is a non-profit organization that was formed 100 years ago to promote self-regulation of the marketplace to avoid additional government involvement through regulations, agencies and courts.
BBB's mission is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. When all the services of BBB are condensed down, BBB accomplishes this mission through two things:
• Education – BBB issues information, gives tips, speaks publicly and issues press releases to the public to help educate them on various topics relating to the rights and responsibilities of businesses and consumers. Education brings accountability to businesses and consumers. Accountability brings about a trustworthy marketplace.
• Conciliation – BBB helps to resolve marketplace issues by acting as a neutral third party to bring businesses and consumers to a resolution of their complaint issues. Beyond BBB’s normal complaint process, arbitration and mediation is offered to help resolve complaints.
BBB is creating a community of trustworthy businesses, setting standards for marketplace trust, encouraging and supporting best practices, celebrating marketplace role models and denouncing substandard marketplace behavior.
BBB is the preeminent resource to turn to for objective, unbiased information on businesses and charities.
