Lopes Finish 4th at Slaton Tourney

SLATON - The West Texas Invitational Basketball Tournament was the 2011 year ending event for the Post High School basketball teams. The annual event was played December 28-30 at three Slaton ISD gyms with Post's varsity and JV girls' and boys' taking part.
The varsity Antelopes finished in fourth place after loosing to Seagraves last Friday, 62-48. Coming out after half-time, the Eagles soared to erase a nine point deficit and went on to increased the lead winning by 14.
The varsity Lady Lopes (6-13, 1-2) won one of three games defeating district foe Denver City in a non-district match-up, 49-44, in game 2 of the tourney.
In the second quarter of the boy's game, Post's full court press helped increased the lead to nine at half, 29-20 against Seagraves.
In the third, the Lopes (8-8, 0-1) had a difficult time stopping their opponent's fast break as the Eagles took the lead 37-34 at the end of the period.
At the 5:08 mark in the fourth quarter, Seagraves increased their lead by eleven, 45-34. For the remainder of the game, both teams scored at will with the final being 62-48.
The Lopes won the opening game beating Smyer 50-47 then suffered a loss to Vega 68-21 in the second contest.
The teams start the new year with a district game Tuesday, January 3rd at Forsan. Game times are: JVG - 4:00, JVB - 5:15, VG - 6:30, VB - 8:00 p.m. Listen to the varsity games on Post Sports Radio at www.PostSportsPage.com.
