Antelopes Sweep Brownfield Scrimmages

After two weeks of morning conditioning sessions and close to 100 degree afternoon workouts, the Bold Gold got to enjoy a cloudy and much cooler early evening Friday at Jimmie Redman Memorial Stadium to show what they can do on the gridiron.
The Brownfield Cubs, who have moved from the 3A ranks to join the 2A Division I group, showed up in Post (2 -2A, DII) to play in freshmen, junior varsity and varsity controlled scrimmages.
All three contests were taken by the Post teams: 9th 3-1, JV 3-1 and Varsity 3-2. The scoring in scrimmages is based on the number of touchdowns. No extra points or field goals are attempted.
Although happy with the end results Head Football Coach Steve Smith told The Garza Post "we played hard but be we are making too many fundamental mistakes," referring to the offense jumping off sides and bad snaps.
Defensively the varsity squad "got to the ball fast, hustled and was on par with our expectations," said Smith.

"I am excited about our progress, our team effort and team speed. We are playing together much better and our strength and speed as a team after a good off season and track season are great."
He added "the coaching staff is the best in the South Plains. They are great coaches doing great things with our kids."
The Bold Gold travel to Sudan this Friday (8/24) for the final scrimmage in preparation for the 2012 season opener at Morton on Friday, August 31. (Click here for a printable season schedule.)
