A wall of smoke from the Bastrop County Complex fire looms over Highway 71.

Post man needs your help for Bastrop fire victims

Published Sept. 7, 2011 @ 8:27 a.m.

Local business man Ted Thomas of Post Tire and Lube is spearheading an effort to support the victims of the recent Bastrop County fires.

Ted plans on leaving Post tomorrow, Thursday, by 12 noon with needed supplies.

The expansive fires started Saturday and continue to burn.  They have caused major damage and have left many people homeless according to the Austin-American Statesman.

Bastrop, just east of Travis County and the state's capital, is Thomas' hometown.

Thomas told The Garza Post that he is  "going to take a large trailer filled with donations from Post (people). They (the fire victims) have lost everything. They are asking for hygein items, clothes, "NEW" men, woman, and childrens under garmets, diapers, baby wipes, cases of water (because their water has been contaminated), toys, just anything and everything we can get for them."

To help with this effort, drop off your donated items at Post Tire and Lube, 604 E. Main Street.

Thomas explained "I can tell you that I saw departments from that area up here helping us fight the wildfires we had.  So lets return the favor and help them."

If you have any questions, call Ted Thomas at 495-1355.
