Nostalgic Train Ride Through Post

Published July 5, 2011 @ 11:36 a.m.

During a weekend in mid-June, after many years we once again had passenger trains traveling through Post.  This uncommon sight was part of special train rides provided by the BNSF Railway Co. for their employees and their families as well as members of the Boys and Girls Club in Lubbock.  These special passengers boarded the vintage passenger cars at the depot in Slaton and enjoyed the novel adventure of a scenic ride through Post to Snyder and back to Slaton.  There were two trips Sunday and two Monday, each approximately 3 hours.  The train trips recognized BNSF employees and also highlighted a $10,000 grant given by the freight transportation company to the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club.  While BNSF sponsors this type of passenger train ride periodically, it has been approximately 50 years since the last passenger train with regular paying customers aboard pulled into the Post Santa Fe Depot.
