The West Texas Invitational Tournament

Published Dec. 26, 2011 @ 10:24 a.m.

The holiday basketball tournament season is here and the Post High School boys and girls junior varsity and varsity teams are ready to play in the West Texas Invitational Tournament at Slaton starting Wednesday.

The tourney  is a long standing seasonal tradition for the Slaton ISD and gives local and regional teams and fans a place to see lots of round ball in a central location over a three day period just 20 miles from Post.

There are five brackets with games happening simultaneously on three courts.  The  different brackets are the varsity girls, JV girls Division 1, JV girls Division 2, the boys varsity and the JV boys.  The three courts are the Slaton Junior High gym at 300 West Jean Street, and the two high school gyms, old and new, next door to each other at West Division and North 20th Streets.

The varsity Lady Lopes will be the first Post team to play on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. against Vega in the old high school gym.  The JV girls take to the court later at 2:00 p.m. at the junior high gym against Idalou 2.  The varsity boys play against Smyer at 3:30 in the new high school gym.  The JV boys don't play until Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against Tahoka at the junior high gym.

The first games of the tournament each day are as early as 8:00 a.m. and as late as 8:30 p.m.
