Skylar Jones Receives Gold Star Award

Published Dec. 20, 2011 @ 12:20 p.m.
Two Garza County residents were recognized at the 2011 Gold Star Banquet, held at the Frazier Alumni Center at Texas Tech university on November 21.
Post High School senior Skylar Jones, daughter of Greg and Channa Jones, received the Gold Star Award. The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and is awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. Skylar has been a member for ten years and has actively participated in livestock, photography and leadership activities.
Lance Dunn, a former Gold Star recipient himself, was recognized as the Outstanding Leader for Garza County. As the Photography teacher in PHS, Lance instructed and encouraged his students to participate in the annual 4-H Photography Contest. The top 14 of the 120 pictures submitted were sent for state competition last summer at the 4-H Roundup. Soon the local 4-H club, through Dunn's photography class, will receive entries for the March 2012 county judging. Some of those photos will be submitted for the 2012 State 4-H Roundup with results released in June.
According to AgriLife agent Nancy McDonald, "we had one outstanding photo by Chelsea Nolan this last year (2011)." Chelsea is a senior at PHS. Click on the picture to the left to see Chelsea Nolan's award winning photo.
