County Accepts Bids for Courthouse Elevator

Published Aug. 18, 2011 @ 2 p.m.

Garza County Commissioners held a special meeting on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. to receive competitive sealed proposals for the county courthouse elevator addition.  Five (5) bids were received:  Lee Lewis Construction ($380,000) 180 days; Teinert ($330,900) 180 days; WR Construction ($302,000) 200 days; Minnix ($338,000) 180 days; and Pharr & Company ($308,000) 145 days.  (Days are calendar days to complete job.)  Stacy Hinley of Parkhill, Smith and Cooper received the bids on behalf of the county to compile a report for the county’s consideration.  A bid is expected to be accepted at a commissioners’ meeting August 15.

During the meeting the commissioners also discussed the purchase of a maintainer for $220,500 for Precinct 1.  Commissioner McDaniel explained that a $178,777 down payment (from insurance of damaged machine) will be applied.  Also, he expects to add $3500 in salvage value from the damaged maintainer (for old ripper and push block) to be applied to the second payment.  Therefore, the balance of $38,223 will be paid by October 15, 2011.  The court voted to purchase the maintainer.
