3rd and 4th Grade Tackle Team Headed to Championship Game

Pep Rally on Saturday and Big Game on Sunday

Published Nov. 1, 2012 @ 5:54 p.m.

The Post 3rd and 4th grade tackle football team is headed to the championship game on Sunday.  This season marks the inaugural year for the tackle league in Post.  The young Lopes will face the Seagraves Eagles for bragging rights in the 2012 South Plains Ironman Toy Bowl.

"This is a special group of boys that have a real connection for a great future together", said proud parent Ralynn Kirkpatrick. "They're going to be fun to watch!"

After a slow start, the team played their way to a 3-4 finishing record, winning in the playoffs to make the final game.  Head coach Ray Perez spoke highly of the boys and summed up the season nicely with the following statement:

"First I would like to say what a privilege it has been to work with these boys.  I look forward to seeing them grow up into young men.  I have to say this is not the perfect season I had envisioned for our team in the beginning, but I trust it will end like I originally thought it should, with a championship victory.  The boys have continually improved their performance each week and played some close games against some more experienced teams.  We are not the same team as when we first started.  The boys did some growing up and learned a lot about football from coaches Tait Crow, Adam Gutierrez, Will Kirkpatrick, Jason Porter, & Leonard Rodela.  Without them, this season would not have been possible.  Thank you coaches, parents, and boys for your dedication to this football season.  Go Bold Gold!!!"

A pep rally honoring the Antelopes will be held at Noon during Post City Trade Day on Saturday in downtown Post.  The community is encouraged to come out and show support for the team as well as the local Trade Day event.

The championship game will be held in Slaton High School's Tiger Stadium on Sunday, November 4th at 1:30 p.m.  Gates open at 12:15 p.m. and admission is FREE with a new, unwrapped toy per person Or $4 for adults and $2 for kids ages 4 & up.  Toys will be donated to the Slaton Red & Blue Toy Drive and the Garza County Christmas program.
