Senior Corbin McDonald returns to familiar ground to lead the three Post track-a-letes at the UIL 2012 State Track and Field Championships this weekend at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.

He is going into the triple jump event with a personal best and school record jump of 46' 2.75".  At last year's meet McDonald participated in both the high jump and the triple jump.  He finished fifth in the triple event jumping 44' 7.75".  According to the UIL's list of state meet qualifiers McDonald enters the competition with a seed mark (regional meet best) just ahead of Wykeyhe Walker's leap of 46' 01".  Walker is from San Antonio Cole.

Junior Haily Berry too qualified for the state meet in the triple jump with her personal best and a re-set of the school record.  At the regional meet she reached 37' 5" on her second jump.  Berry has the fourth best seed mark going into this weekends state meet.  The girl to beat is Tatum's Kenija Collier who had a mark of 38' 5.75" in her regional competition.

Post's Alexis Ramirez is coming off an explosive discus throw of 121' 5" beating her previous best by almost 20 feet.  She will chase a seed mark of 129' 7" by Cisco's Amber Graham who won the Region 1 meet at Odessa.  (Click here for the regional meet story.)  Ramirez looks to follow in the footsteps of Lady Lope Kalyn Villalon the 2011 state meet bronze metal winner.  Villalon claimed third place last year with a throw of 125' 4".

All three of Post's entries will perform Friday with the girls discus event scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and both the girls and boys triple jumps are set for 3:00 p. m.  (Click here for the complete schedule of the UIL 2012 State Track and Field Championships.)
