2012 All-District 3-2A Baseball

The 2012 all-district 3-2A baseball teams were announced this week and three Post Antelopes received high recognition for their play on the field and four others were placed on the honorable mention list.

Senior Matt Soto closed out his high school athletic career with a first team honor.  The starting outfielder displayed a reliable glove and a strong arm.  Also, at the plate he hit in all twelve district games and finished the season with a .343 batting average with nine runs batted in and stole five bases.

The anchor of the Post infield was Vance Blair who spent most of his time at shortstop and did a little pitching for the Lopes also.  The junior sported a .353 batting average with a 50% on base percentage during the distrct season.  Blair also showed his speed on the bases with 16 stolen bases on 16 attempts.

The Newcomer of the Year is sophomore Campbell Kirkpatrick.  He played in all twelve district games getting a hit in each.  Kirkpatrick had the most tries at the plate with 40 and finished the district season with a .300 average.  He also had success on the base path with six stolen bases.

Ace pitcher Dale Diaz appeared in 41 of the 67 innings played in the 2012 district schedule.  The senior was placed on the honorable mention list along with Nathaniel Gill, Pake Jones and Paden Babb.

Diaz finished the year with a 2-4 record and a 3.89 earned run average.  Gill, a junior, who covered third base for the Antelopes, crossed the plate 14 times, knocked in 11 runs and had a home run and seven stolen bases for the team.  Pake Jones, a sophomore spent time on the mound and behind the plate.  He pitched a total of 20 innings and the the remainder of the time was cathing for the other pitchers.  At the plate, he averaged .385, the teams highest average, while recording 13 RBIs, 10 runs on 15 hits including a home run and six steals.  Sophomore Paden Babb had a .371 batting average with 13 hits and three RBIs and runs scored.   

Forsan, the 3-2A district champs, had a total of eight players on the first and second teams including Player of the Year Foster Burchett, Pitcher of the Year Payton Parker and Offensive Player of the Year Trevor Burchett.  Second place Slaton also put eight names on the teams while the third playoff team from the district, Colorado City added six players to the squad.
