Local VFW Post to Retire Old Flags

Published June 21, 2012 @ 11:23 a.m.

If you have an old worn or damaged U. S. or Texas flag, that needs to be retired, take it to Family Cleaners before Saturday, June 23.  VFW Post 6797 will pick up the flags and "retire" them properly at 4 p.m., June 23 in a ceremony behind the VFW hall on the Claremont Highway.   The public is invited.

The U. S. Flag Code states:  "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for
display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."  The VFW Post 6797 performs this service for our community.
