In the first meeting of the new year, Garza County Commissioners’ Court met Monday, January 9 to address a relatively short agenda of county business.

Commissioner Jerry Benham asked the court to consider allowing him to advertise for sealed bids for a 1980 John Deere 670A motor grader.  After discussion, the court agreed.  Public notice for sealed bids for the motor grader will run for two weeks with bids due by 5 p.m., Jan. 20, 2012.  Bids will be opened at the next Commissioners’ Court meeting Jan. 23.

A random drawing from the outgoing Grand Jury members provided the names of Garza County residents who will be asked to serve on the 2012 Grievance Committee.  Those individuals are:  Kenny Massie, Kristie Odom, Victor Ashley and Kevin James.  Also on the Grievance Committee are the county judge, county clerk, county treasurer, tax assessor and the sheriff.

Judge Norman reported that installation of the elevator in the courthouse is complete and finish work is in progress.  If the project continues on this schedule, it should be complete by the end of January.

Minutes from the Dec. 28 regular meeting were approved as presented; written reports from the Clerk and Senior Transportation were also approved.  Precinct and countywide accounts payable for Dec. 29 through Jan. 9 were allowed and ordered paid.  One request for a line item transfer was approved.

During the “Public Comment” item of the agenda, Kathy Beach, representative for Post and Garza County on the Board of Directors of the Texas Plains Trail Region, thanked the court for its support of the organization and reported on the Quannah Parker Trail project.
