Ty Duncan, ESC 17 Specialist, discusses the forthcoming STAAR tests and details for Post parents and students

STAAR Ushers in Next Generation of Student Testing

Published Feb. 23, 2012 @ 6 a.m.

Post ISD parents and students were treated to an information session on the upcoming STAAR program this past Monday, February 20.  Specialists from the Region 17 Education Service Center explained the challenges that lie ahead as the state transitions from TAAKS to STAAR testing.

Francisco Rodriguez began the session with sobering statistics about the need for post-secondary education as our children grow up in the 21st century.  One such stat reminded us that half of all new jobs in the U.S. from 2008-2018 will require a post-secondary degree.  Rodriguez urged those in attendance to work together with the school to create a mutually supportive relationship and to share the STAAR information with the rest of the community.

Ty Duncan followed Mr. Rodriguez and dove in to more of the details for the program.  He stepped through a variety of test question examples and details, answering questions along the way.  Mr. Duncan warned of the challenges ahead for both students and teachers, but he encourages the community by saying "The STAAR Assessment will ensure that students in Post ISD are getting a better deal than they ever have before."

STAAR stands for State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.  This new testing program will likely bring a lot of change to school systems across the state of Texas.  Brochures with more details can be found on the school website linked below.  You're encouraged to learn more by accessing the information at the Post ISD website, discussing details with school administrators, and using resources like the Region 17 ESC.
