Letter to Editor - Kudos to PARC

Published Feb. 17, 2012 @ 6 a.m.

I would just like to give a big Thank You to Janice Plummer, Rick and Nancy Jones and all the volunteers at the Post Animal Refuge Center.  This haven for the many dogs in Post that have been neglected, abused or just not wanted was a vision that has come to fruition for the founders of PARC.  These people do a huge service to the citizens of Post and Garza County, not to mention the lives of the animals that have been saved.  PARC is a “no kill” shelter, which means that any animal taken in by them has a chance at love, happiness and a forever home.  Any animal not adopted will live out its life at the shelter, which is by no means a bad place.  They are cared for and loved by the volunteers.  But they still want a home.  I receive the monthly newsletter from PARC and seeing all the faces of those animals in need breaks my heart and makes me want to take them all home with me.  But I can’t.  I have four dogs of my own that are well adjusted and happy.  The task the volunteers at PARC have is large.  Trying to find homes for the dogs (which by the way, they have an 80% adoption rate) and caring for them is a never ending job.

My request to the citizens of Post and Garza County is this, please have your dogs and cats spayed or neutered.  When I think about the many that never get the chance at a loving home, that they will be put down just because there is no place for them, I cringe.  Check with PARC if you are in need of assistance with spaying and neutering.  They may be able to help.   PARC is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers too numerous to mention and is always in need of donations.  If you would like to help, visit their website at www.postanimalrefuge.com.  There you will find links to their Facebook page as well as PetFinder.com.  If you are considering a new pet for your family, give it some serious thought, and then visit the Post Animal Refuge Center.  Trust me, you won’t want to leave empty handed.  Shelter dogs make the greatest pets.  They’re sociable and want to be loved.

Thank you Post Animal Refuge Center
