Little League Fundraiser Hits a Homerun

Locals enjoy BBQ while supporting youth sports

The 2nd Annual BBQ Sandwich fundraiser for the Post Little League was held on March 23 on West Main Street.

The Giles W. Dalby Correctional Facility smoker-trailer and its crew served about 400 take out plates with a sandwich and fixings on that Friday afternoon.  Donations were accepted in lieu of a set price and the total collected was $3700, or the equivalent of $9.25 a plate.  The total exceeded the 2011 collection of $3300.

The funds will help the local Little League organization expenses for this spring-summer season of t-ball, softball and baseball.

The success of the event can be contributed to businesses and individuals who donated items and time.  Trevah Yarbro, Administrative Assistant at the unit told The Garza Post that the chips and drinks were donated by Texas Refreshment; the sauce, pickles and onions by United Supermarket; the hamburger buns by the Dalby Unit and the to-go boxes were donated by Sonic Drive-in.  Yarbro added that the fundraiser "will be an annual event".

The Post Little League just started the season and its activities can be followed on Facebook.
