Turn It On

The Coach's Corner

A sobering thought: what if, at this very moment, I am living up to my full potential?  That would not be a good thought for most of us.  But I assure you that it is never too late to be what you might have been.  In other words, all you have to do is put the key of success into the ignition and start the engine of personal success.

A number of years ago, oil was discovered on the property of an old farmer.  All his life the old man was basically poverty stricken except for the yearly crop he produced and sometimes the crop failed.  The sudden discovery of oil made him a very wealthy man overnight.

The first thing he did was go out and buy a brand new convertible Cadillac touring car.  He bought a new tuxedo and an old fashioned Abraham Lincoln stovepipe, beaver felt hat, and boxes of the best cigars money could buy.

Every day he would drive into the hot, dusty, little West Texas town so he could see everyone in the community and everyone could see him and what he had become.  He was a friendly old soul, so when riding through town he would turn right and left and speak to everyone he saw.  In fact, sometimes he would run all the way around yet he never ran into anything or anyone and never did he do any damage to any property anywhere.

The reason was simple.  Directly in front of that big ole beautiful automobile, were two big work horses pulling it!

The old man, having never used a machine of any sort, never learned how to drive the car, much less turn it on.  He did not even know all he had to do was insert the key and turn the switch.  Inside that big ole car was hundreds of horses raring to go, but the old man was using the some old two horses that had carried him, pulled him and plowed for him for years on the outside of the car.

There are powers inside of you which, if you could discover and use, would make of you everything you ever dreamed or imagined you could become. - Orison Swett Marsden

Such it is with most people.  We search in vain for something outside that will work for us but if we should look inside of us, we would find much more power at our disposal.  Psychologist even tells us that humans only use 5 to 10% of the brain and about the same amount of the total ability we possess.  Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “The biggest tragedy in America is not the great waste of natural resources we often see, but the greatest tragedy is the waste of human resources.”

I used to think that the most tragic thing that could happen to a man during his lifetime would be to discover an oil well or a gold mine on his property as he lay on his death bed.  Now I know it is infinitely worse to never have discovered the individual personal wealth that each of us have already endowed within us.

It is like a penny and a gold bar both resting at the bottom of an ocean in a sunken ship.  At the bottom of the ocean, they have the same absolute value as long as they are down there.  Their real worth and value only manifest themselves when they are raised to the surface and used for their intended purpose.  As it is with us, our purpose in life and the life the good Lord intended for us is only manifested when we use our abilities and work towards our intended purpose.   Humans have enormous potential for success and hopefully you will discover this treasure of ability and spirit and utilize is like a gold mine or oil well inside you.

Unlike natural resources which run out and become scarce, your own natural abilities are endless.  If fact the only way to waste it is to not use what you have been given.  There is no doubt about the potential and talent that you have, so put it into action and you and others can benefit from what you have to offer.  We carry within us the wonders we seek outside of us.  We need to look under our own hoods and see the horsepower we have just waiting to be used.  You have to want to be all you are capable of becoming.

You are the master of your own destiny. Use your strengths well. They are the keys to your destiny and your success in life. Once you know yourself and take action to realize your dreams, you can unlock the doors to your own potential. Many of us are like Clark Kent, walking around but rarely showing anyone our red capes and are literally pulling about 400 horse power race car with a horse and cart mentality.  We all want to be everything we are capable of becoming so go to work and explore your potential and strive to make use of your ability and you will discover your own treasure within you and the means to having a happy successful life.

You have that Turbo engine inside of you.  All you have to do now is to Turn It On.  Be Bold.  Strive for Gold.  Turn It On.
