The Garza County Health Care Clinic is participating and competing in the the 29th Annual U Can Share Christmas Food Drive of the South Plains Food Bank.
According to Garza County Health Care District administrator Brandy Fannon, the clinic "will be competing with other clinics in our surrounding area. But, please remember, that the real reason is to help those in need."
Items can be brought to the clinic now through December 6th. The Garza County Health Care Clinic is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Items needed for the drive are: canned protein (such as tuna, sardines, chicken, stew and soup, peanut butter and jelly, fruit juices, staples (such as beans, rice and pasta), canned meals (such as spaghetti, pasta dinners and chili), canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, canned juice, canned tuna fish and other canned meats, tuna and hamburger helper, dry soup mixes, macaroni dinners, rice, pasta, crackers, cereal, corn oil/ shortening, corn meal, flour, sugar, powdered milk, instant tea or coffee.
The South Plains Food Bank web site explains that the food drive is a community-wide effort to feed the needy and hungry of Lubbock and the South Plains. U Can Share began as a community service of KCBD-TV NewsChannel 11.
The food bank's goal this year is 500,000 pounds of food and $150,000.
The food and funds collected during the drive help serve the hungry—not only with 5,000+ Christmas boxes, with each having enough food to provide a week of nourishing meals for a family of four, but with food boxes well into the new year for families in need.
