Post Sweeps Into Thanksgiving

Basketball Round-up

Published Nov. 23, 2011 @ 6:11 p.m.

The Post High School basketball teams get a short holiday breather after sweeping the Ralls Jackrabbits and Lady Rabbits in all four games played Tuesday at the Antelope Arena and the high school gym.

Both varsity teams picked up their first victories of the season against Ralls with the Lady Lopes winning 55-41 and the Antelopes outscoring their opponent 56-43.

Prior to the varsity contests, the Lady Lopes junior varsity won 29-7 as did the boys JV, 41-24.

The Post varsity girls (1-4) opened up with a 13 to 8 lead at the end of the first quarter and stayed ahead throughout.  The Lady Rabbits outscored the home team by one point in the third, 14-13.  That's when Ralls began to pick up momentum until Post Coach Patricia Gurierrez ordered the full court press to suppress the effort.

In the second half the Lady Lopes performed the fast break offense to maintain a comfortable lead of not less than nine points.

Senior center Shirley Araiza led all scorers in the girls varsity game with 15 followed by soph Taylor Osborn's 14 and Haily Berry's 11.

To complete the night's sweep of Ralls, the Antelopes won the opening tip-off and eventually the game against the Jackrabbitts, 56-43.

The Lopes, 1-2, kept the lead throughout the game winning each quarter to achieve their first win of the young season.

Three year starter Corbin McDonald was the night's top scorer with 16.  Taylor Soto was also in double figures with 10 points for the Antelopes.

Another factor to Post's win was that Ralls' big man, Ty Harris, got into foul trouble that kept him on the bench for much of the second half.  Harris still scored 10 points for the Rabbits.
