Candidate Filing Deadline Moved

Published Nov. 23, 2011 @ 8:09 a.m.

Because of challenges to the Texas’ legislative and congressional redistricting plans adopted by the 82nd Legislature earlier this year, on Friday, Nov. 4, a three-judge federal panel in San Antonio issued an order that significantly alters deadlines for candidate filing and other county election procedures for the upcoming March 2012 primary elections.

The court order changes the filing period for candidates to file applications for the primary election. Dates of particular interest to local candidates:

• Nov. 28, 2011, is the first day to file an application for a place on precinct and county primary election ballots
• Dec. 10, 2011, is the last day a vacancy for an unexpired term may occur and appear on primary ballots;
• Dec. 15, 2011, is the last day to file an application for a place on precinct and county primary election ballots.

Local candidates should file with the chair of the party of your choice:
Democratic Party County Chair - Bebe Boren, (806) 629-4475, beberjim@yahoo.com
Republican Party County Chair - Trevor Thuett, (806) 777-8388, trevorlthuett@gmail.com
