Mildred Alene (Gerner) Tate of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the age of 85. She was born October 21, 1926 in the Gerner Family Home in Garza County, TX. She grew up in the Grassland Community, attending Magnolia School and graduating from Post High School. Alene married Ben F. Brewer of Post on December 17, 1944. She later married Robert "Bud" Tate on September 8, 1979 in Lubbock. She worked for the Lubbock County Clerk's Office until retiring. Alene was a member of Sunset Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 32 years, Bud; two daughters, Deborah Sneed of Post and Rebecca Brewer and husband Lon Townsend of Gatesville; four step-children, Benita, Robbie, Tara, and Will; brother, Rufus Gerner and wife Wilma of Tahoka; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Alene was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Lena Gerner; as well as seven brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Terrace Cemetery in Post. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Combest Family Memorial Chapel in Lubbock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3610 22nd St., Suite 300, Lubbock, TX 79410 or the charity of your choice.
