7th Grade Lopes Had a Great Season

Thursday: One more game for the fun of it

The Post Junior High football program had great success in the 2011 season.  The 8th graders repeated as district champs and a second undefeated season.

Meanwhile, the 7th grade team finished the district schedule in second place with a 5-1 record behind the only team that beat them all year, Stanton.   The Antelopes showed incredible potential from the beginning because "we had some size and some fast skill guys," said Coach Jimmy Toney.  The team finished 7-1 for the season.

Toney and the other coaches were impressed with the teams dedication and hard work.  And that "they play to their strengths," Toney said.  "We had a ton of the Junior High kids show up to summer workouts, and it showed how beneficial it was to them throughout the season."

The 7th grade team allowed only 20 points the entire season while scoring 168.

Coach Toney went on to "thank all the kids and the parents for their dedication to our football program."

Although the regular season is over, the coaches put together one more competition for the junior high teams just for the expereince and the fun of it.  The results of the games will not have any bearing on the teams' season records.

The games will take place here at Jimmie Redman Memorial stadium this Thursday.  The Post combo 7th and 8th grade B team (or "Fun Bunch") will play the Hamlin 7th grade at 4:30 p.m..  Then the Lopes 7th grade will take on Sundown followed by the 8th grade game against Sundown which should start about 6:30 p.m.  All the visiting teams have successfull programs too, so this will be good tests for the Antelopes.
