Lillie Hart of Post, Texas, died Dec. 28 at her home, surrounded by her immediate family and friends, according to her wishes.

Born to Joy and Tom Cox of Happy, Texas, on Dec. 12, 1949, she graduated from Happy High School and attended South Plains College. She was a cowgirl at heart, an active equestrienne and barrel racer in her youth. She married Richard Hart of Post on June 4, 1971, and they moved to Dodge City, Kansas. They returned to Lubbock in 1977 and ultimately settled on their ranch in Post in 1987, where they were involved in the livestock and oil businesses. She returned to college while her sons, Ryan and Casey, were in high school, and earned a degree in Ag Communications from Texas Tech in 1990.

She was employed for the last five years at the Giles W. Dalby Correctional Facility in Post as a case manager, where she greatly enjoyed the company of her coworkers. Her family was always her highest priority, but she also enjoyed art, music, nature and any new adventure. She was a sculptor, painter, photographer and an accomplished musician, playing piano, organ, guitar and fiddle. A favorite pastime was mentoring young fiddle players. One way she accomplished that was playing in the Ranch Dance Fiddle Band. She was blessed with robust health throughout her life until May of this year, when she was diagnosed with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons, Ryan Hart of Amarillo and Casey Hart of Abilene; daughter-in-law, Syndi and grandson Weston of Amarillo; daughter-in-law, Keely and granddaughter Kinsley of Abilene; and sisters, Gladene Swires of Canadian and Sherma Flowers of Happy.

Services are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Post. For more information, contact Hudman Funeral Home in Post. Memorials may be sent to Joe Arrington Cancer Center or Hospice of Lubbock.
